What is Person Centred Counselling?

Person Centred Counselling is rooted in the humanistic philosophy that each person has the ability to move in the direction of a more fulfilling and satisfying way of being and living their lives.  It is based on a trust in the inner resources of the individual to find their own answers and direction.

When this is achieved the person can begin to fully understand how they interact with the world around them and how they experience themselves in relation to that world.  This leads to a greater self awareness and acceptance, therefore empowering the person to make their own choices and live their own lives.

With this approach I do not give advice or guidance, but will encourage you to find the answers that are appropriate for you.  We focus not only on the problem, but will look at unused opportunities and potential that you may be unaware of.

How we work together

I offer you a safe and supportive environment where you will be accepted without judgement and will be able to explore your issues and concerns.  I will endeavour to try and understand what its like for you and give you a commitment to be genuine, open and honest at all times.

You can use this space to share and discuss only the issues you wish.  You will not be asked to talk about things you do not want to talk about.  We will work together to unravel any distressing, confusing thoughts you may be experiencing, which can reduce the emotional pain you are suffering.  This will help you to make your own choices and decisions about the best way forward.

It is the individual who knows what hurts and they have the capacity within the safety of a therapeutic counselling relationship to begin a healing process.
